Saltire has supported Dumfries & Galloway to become the first local authority in Scotland to be 100% compliant with new domestic smoke alarm legislation.

Saltire Facilities Management was initially contracted to carry out EICR’s, PAT testing and other remedial electrical works within Dumfries and Galloway Housing Partnership’s properties.

In February 2022, the Scottish Government introduced new legislation requiring all homes across Scotland to have an interlinked smoke alarm system. Working in partnership with DGHP, Saltire then embarked on a project to bring all 10,000 homes up to the standards set out in the new legislation.

This involved surveying each property to check the existing alarms and assess any additional requirement the tenants might have had, such as hearing-impaired alarms. Hard wired carbon monoxide detectors, smoke and heat alarms were then installed in 10,000 homes across the Dumfries & Galloway region.
